ظل المسرح الجزائري منذ نشأته مرتبطا بالهوية العربية ومقومات الشخصية الوطنية، مناضلا من اجل الذاكرة والحرية، تمسكا بمكونات المجتمع الجزائري، موظفا عناصر الثقافة الجزائرية في مختلف عروضه وتجاربه المسرحية، التي اتسمت بالطابع الوطني في وسائلها والثوري في تعبيرها عن الواقع الجزائري. واستطاع المسرح أن يستفز المستعمر الفرنسي الذي انتهج السياق التهديمي وحاول طمس معالم ومقومات هويتنا الوطنية، باعتبار هذا التعبير الفني شكلا من أشكال المقاومة الجزائرية التي تجلت من خلال ظاهرة الحضور القوي للتراث الشعبي ببعديه المادي واللامادي، والدور الذي لعبه هذا الأخير في تأصيل المسرح الجزائري.و تبني منطق الثورة على المحاولات التغريبية التي طالت المسار الفني والثقافي في الجزائر، فحمل المسرح مشعل الإبداع والتميز مترجما الواقع الاجتماعي، مدافعا عن مقومات الذاكرة الوطنية من خلال توظيف التراث الشعبي الذي اتخذه المسرح رمزا من رموز الهوية الجزائرية

Since its inception, the Algerian theater has been linked to the Arab identity and the elements of the national character, fighting for memory and freedom, adhering to the components of Algerian society, employing the elements of Algerian culture in its various performances and theatrical experiences, which were characterized by the national character in its means and revolutionary in its expression of the Algerian reality. The theater was able to provoke the French colonizer who followed the destructive context and tried to obliterate the features and components of our national identity, considering this artistic expression as a form of Algerian resistance, which was manifested through the phenomenon of the strong presence of the popular heritage in its physical and non-material dimensions, and the role played by the latter in the rooting of the Algerian theater. The logic of the revolution was based on the attempts of Westernization that affected the artistic and cultural path in Algeria, so the theater carried the torch of creativity and excellence, translating the social reality, defending the elements of national memory by employing the popular heritage that the theater has taken as a symbol of Algerian identity.
