This paper explores the topic of data, information, and geographical knowledge in a neutrosophic environment, where certainty and doubt coexist. Neutrosophy is a modern tool that can handle different types of uncertainty, such as doubt, ambiguity, ignorance, neutrality, and saturation. We present the latest trends and research gaps in the field of information systems and geographic data from a neutrosophic perspective. We also introduce new concepts of topological data and information and apply some neutrosophic topological concepts to GIS. We show some neutrosophic spatial relationships that can capture the complexity and vagueness of real-world phenomena. Finally, we summarize the main findings and contributions of this paper for the advancement of neutrosophic GIS. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.
