Arabic tradition is considered a fertile resource for the movement of contemporary Arabic poetry and one of its most important intellectual and artistic components that enable it to reveal and express contemporary issues, including the civilization crisis the poet witnesses. The evocation of the traditional character in modern Arabic poetry is perhaps one of the most important elements that contemporary poets try to use to help change reality by evoking the archetypal qualities and capabilities of the traditional character. Using an analytical methodology, this study seeks to examine the forms through which Jordanian poets recall the character of the glorious friend and companion )sahabi( of Prophet Mohammad )BPUH( Abi Thar Al- Ghafari, after they had found in it a successful artistic tool that can help reflect the bitter reality and the status quo of their nation that suffers humiliation and weakness. The integration of this traditional character appears to be important to provide poets’ experience with a fertile human aspect that transcends the limits of time and place, in addition to the originality it imparts as a result of its connection with the nation’s tradition. Recalling the character of Abi Thar Al- Ghafari in a creative contemporary text confirms that this character is and continues to be a living symbol incarnating contemporary social and political suffering and demonstrating an ability to coexist on the basis of justice, equality and rejection of injustice and tyranny
