Various published researches in transient natural convection heat transfer in rectangular or square enclosures are
reviewed and described in detail in this comprehensive review by describing the experimental and numerical
approaches adopted in studies of this problem in the literature started from the past decade until the recent years.
Different thermal boundary conditions for the evolution of the flow regimes and thermal fields of this problem are
considered. This review summarizes also recent researches on fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics of threedimensional
effects of transient natural convection and identifies opportunities for future research.
