بسبب اندلاع حرب الخليج الاولى عمد النظام السياسي في العراق الى الاستعانة باسلحة الدمار الشامل بهدف معادلة الكفة مع الجانب الايراني فضلا عن الاستفادة من القدرة التدميرية الكبيرة التي تنجم عن استخدام هذه الاسلحة فعمد النظام السياسي الى استخدام الاسلحة الكيمياوية في هذه الحرب وبهدف تطوير امكاناته استعان بالشركات الالمانية صاحبة الريادة والتقدم في هذا المجال وتمكنت الاخيرة من تقديم خبرتها في هذا المجال الى العراق منذ بداية الحرب عام 1980 واختتم البحث بتدمير البرنامج من قبل لجان التفتيش التابعة لمنظمة الامم المتحدة في اعقاب نهاية حرب الخليج الثانية

Because of the outbreak of the first Gulf War, the political regime in Iraq resorted to weapons of mass destruction with the aim of equalizing the balance with the Iranian side, as well as benefiting from the great destructive capacity that results from the use of these weapons. Her leadership and progress in this field, and the latter was able to provide its experience in this field to Iraq since the beginning of the war in 1980, and the research concluded with the destruction of the program by the inspection committees of the United Nations in the wake of the end of the second Gulf War
