Macrophytes ecology and productivity in the Smir swamps (Tétouan, Morocco). The present study has identified several plant communities in the Smir marsh and established a simplified vegetation map. Furthermore we discussed the main macrophytes' ecology in terms of local conditions. The assessment of the maximal aboveground biomass of some macrophytes displays the high productivity of Phragmites australis and Typha angustifolia. in addition to traditional uses of these macrophytes, we proposed other utilizations, more especially in pollution control.
