إن وظائف العلم ومقاصده ليست فائدتها قاصرة على الجوانب التربوية؛ بل إنها تتعدى ذلك لتؤثر في مناهج التفكير ودرجة إعمالها في بناء مباحث العلم ومسائله؛ إذ إن توظيفها خاضع بالأصالة إلى طبيعة العلم نفسه أولا، ثم إلى مدى إسهامه (=المنهج) في تحقيق وظائفه الأصلية، فلا يوظف منها إلا ما كان معينا له على تحقيق وظائفه، وما كان نائيا عنها لم يتشاغل به، وإن عمد إليه فمن باب الاستئناس والمتابع ليس إلا، ولا يتوسع فيها إلا بالقدر الذي يجلي حقائقها.
إن هذه الخلفية الحاكمة تؤثر في طبيعة ترتيب المباحث داخل العلم، أو ما يصطلح عليه بمناهج التأليف، ووجه التلازم بينهما يظهر في طريقة ترتيب وتصنيف المباحث داخل العلم، فيقدم في ترتيبها ما كان مرتبطا بالوظائف الأصلية للعلم، وما كان محققا لمقصود البحث فيها، ويؤخر ما كان خادما لها، ومعينا على استتمام التصور لها، فالوظائف إذن؛ تؤثر في طريقة تصنيف مسائله في الأبواب المختلفة، وتنويعها في مباحث متناسبة؛ بحيث تكون متكاملة فيما بينها في تأدية مقصود العلم.

The functions and purposes of science are not limited to the educational aspects; they go beyond this to affect the methods of thinking and the degree of their implementation in the construction of the science's investigations and questions; their employment is subject to the nature of the science itself first, and then to the extent of its contribution (= the method) to the realisation of its original functions, so it does not employ them except what helps it to achieve its functions, and what is far from it, it does not engage in, and if it does, it is only for the sake of information and follow-up, and it does not expand on them except to the extent that it clarifies their realities.
This governing background influences the nature of the arrangement of the investigations within the science, or what is termed the methods of authorship, and the correlation between them appears in the way the investigations are arranged and categorised within the science, so that what is related to the original functions of the science and what achieves the purpose of the research in it, and delays what is servant to it and helps to complete the perception of it, so the functions then influence the way its issues are classified in different sections and diversified into proportional investigations so that they are integrated among themselves in fulfilling the purpose of the science.
