يعتر كتاب "معرفة أنواع علم الحديث" لأبي عمرو ابن الصلاح الشهرُزُوري (ت 643ه) من كتب العلوم الإسلامية القلائل التـي ما إن صنفها أصحابها حتـى أصبحت إماما لأهل ذلك العلم، وقِبلة لطلاب ذلك الفن، وأصلا أصيلا يَرجعون إليه، وموردا لا يصدرون إلا عنه، ولا يحومون إلا عليه؛ فهو أهم تصنيف جامع لشتات مقاصد علم الحديث؛ فقد فتق غوامضه، وشرح علله، ورسم حدوده، ووضع قيوده، فكـان وحده أمة.
ولهذا عكف الناس عليه، ونســجوا على منواله، فلم يتـرك بعده لمبدع شيئا، والمُوَفَّق من استنبط منه، وبنـى عليه. وما ذلك إلا للمنهجية الفريدة التـي أقام عليـها ابن الصلاح كتابه، تلك المنهجية التـي استمدها ولا شك من واقع الممارسة التدريسية؛ فقد اشتغل بالتدريس قبل أن يصنف الكتاب حوالي خمسة عشر عاما، ثم اشتغل بتدريس الكتاب لأزيد من عقد من الزمن.
غير أن جماعة من العلماء انتقدوا عليه منهجه في تأليف الكتاب. وهذا المقال إسهام في الإجابة عن تلك الانتقادات ودفعها.

The book ‘Knowing the Types of the Science of Hadith’ by Abu Amr Ibn al-Salah al-Shahrzuri (d. 643 AH) is considered one of the few Islamic sciences books that, once compiled by its owners, became an imam for the people of that science, and a mecca for students of that art. It is the most important compilation of all the purposes of the science of hadith; it unravelled its mysteries, explained its defects, defined its limits and set its restrictions, so that it alone was a nation.
This is why people have devoted themselves to it and copied from it, leaving nothing for the innovators, and the most successful are those who deduce from it and build on it. This is due to the unique methodology on which Ibn al-Salah built his book, a methodology that he undoubtedly drew from the reality of teaching practice; he worked in teaching before compiling the book for about fifteen years, and then worked in teaching the book for more than a decade.
However, a number of scholars have criticised his approach to writing the book. This article is a contribution to answering and defending these criticisms.
