البيئة إذن هي كل ما يحيط بالإنسان من العوامل المادية والمكانية والزمانية والاجتماعية والتي تحدد نظام حياة الفرد ومواقفه واتجاهاته. ولما كان الإنسان يعيش تحت تلك الظروف البيئية فهو يتأثر بها ويؤثر فيها، ولان الإنسان كائن اجتماعي فعليه إذن التكيف تحت تلك الظروف لأنه لا يمكن أن يعيش الإنسان أو يتواجد من غير بيئة تحتويه . فهو يعمل على تنظيم متطلبات حياته ومحاولة تنظيمه كل ما يحيط به لكي يتألف مع هذه البيئة.

The environment, then, is all that surrounds the human being from the physical, spatial, temporal and social factors that determine the individual's life system, his attitudes and directions. And since man lives under those environmental conditions, he is affected by and influences them, and because man is a social being, then he must adapt under those conditions because he cannot live or exist without an environment that contains him. He is working to regulate the requirements of his life and try to organize everything that surrounds him in order to be compatible with this environment.
