إن النظر في النص بالدراية كان يتطلب وصفاً خاصاً لتعزيز فكرة الوعي في التعامل مع بيان حقيقة المراد الشرعي وتوضيح بيان دليله . من هنا كان السلف يجدون صعوبة في إشكالية التقابل بين العقل والقرآن، وإمكان ضرورة التأويل من جهة ثانية ، من حيث كيفية ارتباط المعنى الباطني بالمعنى الظاهري، والتميز بين عقل الرواية وعقل الدراية ، بين السماع والنظر ، وبيان المعنى الصريح من المعنى المشكل . وفي خضم ذلك كان الصراع عند القدامى ماثلاً في الأذهان النقدية المختلفة مما جعل تعدد هذه الذهنيات تتفاوت بين تعطيل الفهم وإنتاج المعنى ، لذلك كان سياق الفهم يحتوي في ظلاله على السؤال الملح والمؤدي إلى فاعلية التأويل الذي لا يخضع لمنهجية معينة صرفة ، ولكنه يرتبط أساساً بتتبع إجراءات ذات توجيه داخلي ، يكون النص فيها هو الموجه الأساس لعملية التأويل . هذه العملية التي تسعى إلى ترجيح المحتملات وبيان دليل الحقيقة الخفية ، تضع في الاعتبار ، أيضاً ، مهمة الفهم الداخلي للحقيقة المختلفة .
