- It is the desire of most Muslims to possess knowledge of Arabic and Islamic studies in order to be able to understand Islam and its noble books correctly, as well as to practice its tenets from the position of enlightenment. It should be noted that most flag bearers of Islam do try their best, in any location that they may find themselves, to disseminate Islam. Unsatisfied with the efforts of those itinerant preachers, and teachers, some people especially in West African would prefer to embark on trans-border trips to anywhere where they can meet an ‘alim. That can be considered as role model and enroll in his Madrasah in order to acquire knowledge of Arabic and Islamic Studies. This paper highlights the efforts of the Grand Scholar of Yorubaland, Shaykh Adam Abdullah Al-Ilory, in attracting foreign students to Nigeria. As well as promoting Arabic and Islamic studies in selected West Africa countries, such as Benin Republic, Republic of Togo, Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire. The paper adopted interviews, field work, and other sources of information as its methods. It gives the account of the growth and developments of the Markaz, Arabic Training Centre, Agege, Nigeria, as the citadel which trained old and young men, who traveled out of their countries in search of the golden fleece. Documented in this work is the way through which Arabic and Islamic institutions began to emerge in the specified areas of West Africa. .
