Abstract— In our busy daily life, there are a large number of
people who want to pursue higher education, but lack the
time or separated by distance or other circumstances
intervening between them and their dream of completing
their education. To accommodate the needs of these people,
the higher educational institution started to offer distance
education programs including e-learning. In this article. An
analysis of the literature was conducted to identify the
different approaches implemented in designing the database
for an e-learning system. The findings of the analysis
suggest that there are four main trends when designing a
database for the e-learning system: i) The System
Requirement. ii) The SCORM Standards. iii) Technologybased. iv) Content-based.
