يُعد التطرف ومستلزماته مكافحته احد اكثر المواضيع تداولاً في حقل الدراسات الانسانية الحديثة، بسبب تفاقم اثاره السلبية على المجتمعات من جهة، واوجه الدعم والعوامل المسببة له من جهة اخرى، اذ شكلت ظاهرة التطرف العنيف بعد نهاية الحرب الباردة مجالاً بحثياً ملتبساً، اختلطت فيه الدوافع المعرفية بالدوافع الإستراتيجية والإيديولوجية، ترافقت مع جملة من الأسباب والدوافع والظروف الموضوعية على المستوى المحلي والاقليمي والدولي اسهمت بشكل رئيس بتوافر بيئة جذابة للتطرف العنيف والفكر المشوه لا يقتصر تأثيراته السلبية على منطقة بعينها أو جنسية بذاتها أو نظام سياسي او عقائدي معين فحسب، بل تجلت انعاكاسته على العالم برمته.
لذا لا يمكن حصر اسباب التطرف ومستلزمات مكافحته بجهةً او منطقة معينة، لان اثاره الضارة تمتد داخل مكونات المجتمع كافة، وما يترتب عليه من الفوضى وفقدان الأمن وثقافة القتل والارهاب وغيرها من المبررات التي تفتقر إلى أي دعامة دينية أو شرعية أو قانونية أو ثقافية، وفي المقابل، فأن نقائض التطرف هو الاعتدال والتسامح ونشر السلام والوسطية.
ومن هنا، فإن التصدي لتزايد التطرف العنيف المفضي غالباً إلى الإرهاب يشكل تحدياً صعباً، لأنها تستدعي ازالة عوامل المسببة له كالخوف وانعدام الثقة وصدام الثقافات وتجنب الصراعات من جانب، وايجاد التدابير الملائمة للقضاء عليه بما فيها تعزيز الممارسات الفعالة والمنهجيات المجربة في سبيل تبني نهج شامل يمكن أن يعالج الدوافع المؤدية للتطرف العنيف وكذا الحد من آثاره ونتائجه من الجانب الأخر.
وهنا تجدر الإشارة، بأن مكافحة التطرف ومنعه تستدعي معالجة الظروف التي تؤدي اليه، وهذا يتطلب فضلاً عن الأليات السياسية والأمنية والاقتصادية والاعلامية الى الاهتمام بمظالم أولئك المُعرضين لرسالة المتطرفين، وذلك من خلال البحث عبر مراحل التأريخ عن جذور تلك الظاهرة، ومن ثم الشروع برسم مستلزمات للحد منه، والجدير بالذكر، قد جرَّبت العديد من الدول مسعى لمعالجةِ هذه المعضلة، وتوصلت جميعها إلى أن الأدوات الأمنية وحدها لن تنجح غالباً، لذا يتعين مواجهة الأيديولوجيا التي تكمن خلف تلك الظاهرة ومسبباتها على المستويات السياسية والاقتصادية والثقافية كافة بُغية تشجيع خطاب بديل معتدل يمكن أن يثبط فكريًا انجذاب افراد المجتمع للمتطرفين.
ومن هنا تأتي أهمية هذا الكتاب عبر سلسلة من البحوث الاكاديمية لتحليل وفهم ظاهرة التطرف في جذورها التأريخية ومفاهيمها المتشعبة من أجل تفكيك اجزاء تلك الظاهرة والوقوف على الفهم الشامل للتطرف واسبابه، ومن ثم الشروع ببناء أليات واستراتيجيات تعد من المستلزمات الرئيسة لمكافحة التطرف وعلى المستويات المحلية ( سياسية، اقتصادية، اجتماعية، ثقافية)، فضلاً عن المستوى الإقليمي والدولي، التي تسعى في نهاية المطاف لتفكيك مسببات نموها وصولاً لحماية المجتمع والتخلص من الافكار المتطرفة جميعها.
