الكثيرون يتساءلون: ما مفهوم الذكاء؟
أودع الله فينا ألواناً من القدرات، تعمل وتتفاعل بينها في تنسيق إلهي متكامل، لتفرز ما نعرفه باسم "الذكاء" وهو مصطلح يتضمن عادة الكثير من القدرات العقلية المتعلقة بالقدرة على التحليل، والتخطيط، وحل المشاكل، ورسم الإستنتاجات، وسرعة المحاكمات العقلية، كما يشمل القدرة على التفكير المجرد، وجمع وتنسيق الأفكار، والتقاط اللغات، وسرعة التعلم.
مع أن المفهوم العام السائد عند الناس للذكاء يشمل جميع هذه الأمور وربما يجعلها الناس مرتبطة بقوة الذاكرة، إلا أن علم النفس يدرس الذكاء كميزة سلوكية مستقلة عن الإبداع، والشخصية، والحكمة وحتى قوة الحفظ المتعلقة بالذاكرة.
إن الذكاء هو بناء الشخصية، هو المقدرة على التمييز بصورة جيدة، هو المقدرة على إجراء تبادلات على الانفعال والتخيل والإبداع والابتكار والانفجار في موجة من الغضب أو السعادة، الذكاء ليس شيئاً يلقاه الإنسان كأي عضو من أعضائه أو الصفات الجسدية التي تميزه، بل هو مقدرة قابلة للتطوير والتنمية، وكل كائن لا بد له لكي يصبح ذكياً أن ينمي ذكاءه وهذا معناه أن هناك عملية بناء ذاتية للذكاء.
يُعد مفهوم الذكاء من أكثر المفاهيم السيكولوجية التي دار حولها النقاش والجدل فتعددت تعريفاته، وتمايزت نظرياته، وتنوعت أساليب قياسه، وفي المقابل لا يوجد مصطلح أو مفهوم في علم النفس يَجمع بين شيوع الاستخدام وصعوبة التعريف الإجرائي مثل مصطلح الذكاء، ولم يتم التوصل حتى الآن إلى تعريف محدد قاطع مانع يُجمع عليه علماء النفس والمربون.
