لقد سعى نجيب محفوظ ـ على مر تجربته الحافلة بالعطاء المميز ـ إلى نقل صورة معبرة لنسق فكري ممتد من عمق التاريخ، وإلى أن تكون حياة الإنسان مليئة بإمكان تحقيق السعادة المنشودة، من خلال تبني منهج فكري سليم عن قيمة الإنسان والحياة من حوله، بوجه عام، وبالنظر إلى ما يقدمه من افتراضات تحمل في تضاعيفها حلولا نسبية. وفي كلتا الحالتين تعنى الرؤية الفكرية في وعي نجيب محفوظ بماهية الفعل في تقصيه حقيقة المجتمع، ويعد هذا جهدا مضاعفا في إنتاج الوعي المعرفي الذي تضمنته رواياته، بالنظر إلى ما كان يستمدّه من أفكار نابعة من المحيط المعيش في نسقه الثقافي/ الفكري.

In both cases, the intellectual vision concerns Naguib Mahfouz's awareness of the nature of the act in his exploration of the reality of society, and this is a double effort in producing the awareness of the knowledge contained in his novels, given the ideas derived from the living environment in its cultural / intellectual context.
