يعد وادي نفط من الوديان الموسمية الجريان والتي تنبع من ايران وتصب مياهها داخل الاراضي العراقي, وتجري فيه المياه في مدة قصيرة تعقب سقوط الامطار في الجهات الواقعة شرق نهر ديالى, ويصب في هور الشبيجة من طرفه الشمالي
