ترجع أهمية مدينة حمص ليس لموقعها الجغرافي أو لمعالمها التاريخية والعمرانية... أو لقدسيتها كونها قد سكنها العديد من صحابة رسول الله وأقاموا ودفنوا فيها أمثال القائد العربي خالد بن الوليد ... أو لمساجدها ومعالمها الدينية... فحسب بل ما هو ابعد من هذا المنظور... إنها بشارة رسول الله ورؤيته المستقبلية عن فضل هذه المدينة، وتكمن أهميتها ما ورد في حقها من أحاديث وآثار عن رسول الله عنها، والتي تعكس بعدها الديني على ساكنيها ومحبيها...ومن هذا المنطلق حاولنا أن نسلط في هذا البحث الضوء على فضل هذه المدينة العريقة التي تمتد جذورها التاريخية إلى نحو من 5000 سنة، وما ورد من أحاديث وآثار حول أهميتها وفضلها من خلال كتب التراث العربي الإسلامي، واقتصرنا على كتاب تاريخ ابن عساكر كنموذج لهذه المؤلفات، إذ يعد تاريخ ابن عساكر واحداً من هذا الإرث العظيم الذي ضم العشرات من النصوص والأحاديث النبوية والروايات التاريخية عن فضل مدينة حمص، مقتفياً في ذلك طريقة المحدثين من حيث العناية بالسند كالعناية بالخبر.يهدف البحث إلى الكشف عن الروايات التي وردت في فضائل مدينة حمص من خلال كتاب تاريخ ابن عساكر.إذ أن محاور الدراسة تقع في مبحثين مع مقدمة وخاتمة، تناول المبحث الأول: مدينة حمص في كتب التراث العربي الإسلامي، ويعالج المبحث الثاني: الروايات التي وردت في فضل مدينة حمص من خلال كتاب تاريخ ابن عساكر.ولله الحمد في الأولى والآخرة.
