تعتبر هذه الدراسة مقارنةً معاصرةً بين المنهجين السلفي والأشعري، حيث تناقش طريقة الفكر الأشعري الذي تمثله: "جامعة الأزهر الشريف بمصر"، مقارنة بالمدرسة السلفية التي تمثلها: "جامعة المدينة النبوية بالمملكة العربية السعودية"؛ حيث تعتبر هاتين المدرستين في تاريخنا المعاصر؛ من أهم المراجع لكلا المنهجين في مسائل العقيدة عند أهل السنَّة .
كما تناقش الدراسة أيضاً؛ وجهات النظر في بعض مسائل العقدية عند السادة المتأخرين من الأشاعرة، ومقارنة آرائهم مع مؤسس هذه المدرسة: الإمام أبي الحسن الأشعري (تــ 935).
وتركز الدراسة في المقام الأول على اثنين من العلماء المعاصرين، وهما الشيخ محمد سعيد رمضان البوطي- رحمه الله- (تـ 1348 - ،، المولود في تركيا والمتخرج من جامعة الأزهر، ثم صار من أشهر علماء المدرسة الأشعرية، والشيخ محمد بن صالح العثيمين- رحمه الله-، الذي نشأ وتعلم في السعودية، ويعد من أبرز المنظرين للمدرسة السلفية المعاصرة.
وعلاوة على ذلك تناقش الدراسة المنهج السلفي زمن الأجيال الثلاثة الأولى من القرون الفاضلة، ومدى تأثر المدرسة السلفية المعاصرة بالمنهج السلفي حقيقة، وذلك بمقارنة المنهج المعاصر بالمدرسة السلفية القديمة، كما تجري الدراسة تحليلا شاملا لفكر الإمام ابن تيمية- رحمه الله- (تــ 1328) وذلك من خلال صياغة وجهات نظره في مسائل العقيدة، ومقارنتها بفكر الإمام الرازي- رحمه الله- (تــ 1210) باعتباره علما من أعلام الفكر الفلسفي في ذلك الزمان .

Abstract.
This is a critical comparison between the Ashʿarite school of thought represented by the Al-Azhar University in Egypt, and the Salafi seat of learning represented by the Islamic University of Medina in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It further addresses the conflicting views within the Ashʿarite school of thought and tries to establish the relationship between the founder of the school, Abū al-Ḥasan al-Ashʿarī (d. 324/935), and the later Ashʿarite scholars. It primarily focuses on two contemporary scholars, namely, shaykh Muḥammad Saʿīd Ramaḍān al-Būṭī, born in Turkey and graduated from the al-Azhar University who lectured there and represents the Ashʿarite school of thought and shaykh Muḥammad b. Ṣāliḥ al-ʿUthaymīn, born and educated in Saudi Arabi, who represents the Salafi school of thought.
Furthermore, it discusses the impact of the first three generations of the pious predecessors and the contemporary Salafi school of thought and draws a comparison with the past and present Ashʿarite era. It also looks at the Ashʿarite interaction with the ruler‟s of the Ummayad and ʿAbassid dynasties.
The study conducts a thorough analysis of imam Ibn Taymiyyah‟s (d. 728/1328) method of formulating his theological views and that of imam al-Rāzī (d. 606/1210) as well. The study further seeks to draw a comparison between the beliefs of imam Ibn Taymiyyah and the Ashʿarite doctrine of belief. Lastly, the study will also touch on the Shafiʿī and Ḥanbalī schools of jurisprudence (fiqh) in Islam.
