This paper examines the pre-emption in the novel “ The Day when the butterflies disappointed me" written by ZiadMahaftha, which revolves around an experience of a struggler, in which he dreamed of building a democratic state, ruled by the law; therefore, he paid his life for this dream. Nevertheless, the son took a different way while fulfilling his ambition to enter the world of politics; the hope of taking an advantage of the power of ethical and unethical means. The novel is written using the technique of pre-emption, which has been divided into two types in this novel: the uterus or frame pre-emption, and the implied pre-emption. The paper concluded that this structure has succeeded in luring the recipient to follow the end of the novel, and to deliver the message of the novel.
