Scientific research is producing work intended to develop human, knowledge (update, revise, advance, etc.). For conducting a research,
most of the time, researchers have not to start from scratch. They need to resume from wherever others ended (ideas, results, data, etc.); it further consolidate their own contributions. Consequently, they need to cite previous work. The use of quotation gives an intellectual richness,
credibility, and scientific authority to their work. In such situations researchers should strive to comply with ethical principles concerning
source citation. Nevertheless, a still significant number of researchers
ignore the formats and the rules for the use of citations, which exposes
them to scientific integrity rule breaches, violating copyright aspects and
the risk of making plagiarism.
Through this work, we would like to define the notion of quoting
and bibliographic citation, and specify their philosophy, forms and
practices, as well as misconducts and breaches at citing sources into
which many researchers fall.
