حّضت دراسة الأديان والمعتقدات، والكيفية التي تتكون التشكيلة الثقافية لشخصية الإنسان في المجتمع، ودور الفن في شرح المعتقدات الدينية باهتمام خاص لدى مختلف العلوم، وإن هذا الارتباط بين الفن والدين قَمينٌ بالتأمل، ثم إن علاقة رجال الدين بأعلام الفن، هي قضية تأرجحت بين الائتلاف تارة وبالاختلاف غالبًا، وليس عجبًا أن نراهما يتناصبان على مطارحات كثيرة أهمها حدود حرية الفنان في اختيار موضوعه الجمالي عند ربطه بالحكم الأخلاقي شريطة أن لا يكون الفيصل في تفسير نجاح العمل الفني أو فشله، وغيرها من الأحداث التي لا يلتقيان فيها إلاّ جفاءً وعداءً، بالرغم من أنهما كانا فيما مضى يفعلان الشيء ذاته، وأمام هذا السياق دعانا حديث السّاعة إلى المساهمة في إعادة سبر المتداول منه والأقل تداولاً، والخوض في إبراز مدى صحّة الوعي عند كلا الفريقين، كما يتحتم علينا عدم إقصاء العوامل المشتركة بين الديانات، حتى نتعرف إلى المعنى الكلي والقدر المشترك الذي يجمعهما، وبالتالي يتسنى لنا نحن كدارسين معرفة فتيل النزاع الفكري الإيديولوجي، الذي شبّ بينهما وشابت عليه عاداتهم منذ قرونً، ومحاولة تفكيك المأزق لإيجاد المخرج، فربما كلاهما ظلم الدين والفن معاً
