كانت ترجمات المؤلف المصري نجيب محفوظ بالنسبة للعالم الخارجي ومازالت احد اهم المراجع للنعرف علي التراث المصري من الثقافه والقيم و الموروث الفكري للمجتمع.وتهدف هذه الدراسه المقارنه الي الوقوف علي اهم الاختلافات والاتفاقات في ترجمة اهم الرموز الثقافيه في النصوص الوصفيه في رواية اللص والكلاب للروائي الكبير نجيب محفوظ. تم استخدام مؤلف منى بيكر كمرجعيه في هذه المقارنات وتمثل مجموع العبارات الثاقافيه المستخدمه (159) تم اختيارها من سياق الروايه.وتم تصنيفهم الي عبارات تخص التاريخ واخري تخص البيئة والحاله النفسيه وكذلك الي عبارات تخص المواد المستخدمه في الحياة اليوميه. وفقا لنتائج الدراسه والتي طبقت 7 استراتيجيات للترجمه لتقييم النص الانجليزي الي وجود بعض الاختلافات الكبيره في سياق هذه الترجمات والتي ادت الي فقد كثير من المعنى النصي للغه التى استخدمها الكاتب الكبير نجيب محفوظ.

The translation of Naguib Mahfouz's work has been a reflective source of the Egyptian culture, heritage and values of the society for the outside world from the time of its writing till now. Therefore, many of his works have been translated into English and other languages, including the present one the thief and the dogs, the topic of this research. This comparative study aims to find out strategies, similarities and differences in the English translation of an Arabic descriptive text in one of the famous Egyptian writer Naguib Mahfuz literary works, namely, the thief and dogs written in 1961 and translated by Trevor Le Gassick in 1984. This research paper applies the theory of Mona Baker (2018) to define the translation strategies used in the novel to serve the delivery of the cultural signs in the original text message. The corpuses of the study consist of (159) cultural signs selected from the context of the novel. Corpuses are classified according to the types and context into historical, religious, ecological, psychological and material cultural signs. Finally, a conclusion is drawn based on the assessment of the English translation; frequencies and percentages are calculated. Strategies used in the translation are defined. Seven strategies are used but the most usable one is paraphrasing.
