إن تصوير الكاتب أو الكاتبة لشخصية بمثل جنسه أو جنسها ممكن أن تكون عملية " تقمص" وهي عملية يؤدي من خلالها الكاتب "لا شعوريا" دور البطل وكأنه هو بكل معنى الكلمة عندما يمر بمثل موقف البطل. أما أن يرسم كاتب ما، شخصية مخالفة لجنسه، فيبدوا لي أنها عملية "إسقاط" وهي لا شعورية أيضا في جزء كبير منها، إذ يقوم الكاتب بإسقاط مشاعره الخاصة وأمنياته وما يريده أن يكون للجنس الآخر من دون أن يعي انه يريد ذلك! ويوظف في ذلك المعرفة الناتجة عن التجربة أو التعليم الأكاديمي أو امتلاكه لأدوات الكتابة وقدرته في توظيف تلك الأدوات.

The writer's portrayal of a personality of the same gender can be a process of "reincarnation", a process by which the writer "subconsciously" performs the role of the hero as if he is in every sense of the word when he passes the same position of the hero. As for a writer to draw a character contrary to his gender, it seems to me that it is a process of "dropping" and it is also unconscious in large part, as the writer drops his own feelings, wishes and what he wants to be for the opposite sex without realizing that he wants it! In that, he uses knowledge resulting from experience or academic education, or his possession of writing tools and his ability to employ those tools
