تعد الجغرافية السياسية اكثر فروع الجغرافية حيوية في موضوعاتها، واسرعها تغيراً في معطياتها، ذلك لانها صنو الاحداث السياسية، التي لا قرار لها، بل تتميز بسمة التغير والتقلب، وربما الانقلاب، إذ تتقطع اوراق معاهدات السلام تحت سنابك خيل الحرب المضمرة، وينقلب المستعمر القديم إلى حليف رشيد، والحدود المقدسة للدول تُشطب بقلم الجار الاقرب، وهكذا.
ومن هنا جاء الهدف من الدراسة للتعرف على عالم عراقي يمثل علامة مضيئة في تاريخ الجغرافية السياسية بجهوده وإسهاماته المميزة في هذا الفرع الهام من فروع علم الجغرافية على مدار اربعين عاماً كاملة من ابحاث وتدريس وإشراف ومناقشات رسائل علمية واطاريح جامعية وعضوية مجالس ومؤتمرات وندوات وسيمينارات، هو الاستاذ الدكتورعباس غالي الحديثي قامة علمية كبيرة ويعد أحد ابرز الأساتذة الرواد في الجغرافية السياسية الحديثة والمعاصرة، فهو رائد ونبراس أضاء الطريق لطلبته الذين ينشرون علمه في العراق والعالم العربي، وتكمن أهمية الدراسة في إلقاء الضوء على الاعمال العلمية لهذا العالم الجليل، إذ إن مجالات مؤلفاته العلمية متعددة ومتنوعة، في محاولة لتعريف الاجيال القادمة بما جاء في هذه المؤلفات من فكر وافكار للاستفادة منها.

Hence the aim of the study came to get to know an Iraqi scientist who represents a bright sign in the history of geopolitics with his distinguished efforts and contributions in this important branch of geography science over the course of forty full years of research, teaching, supervision and discussions of scientific messages and university thesis and membership of councils, conferences, seminars and seminars, is the professor Dr. Abbas Ghali Al-Hadithi is a great scientific stature, and he is considered one of the most prominent pioneering professors in modern and contemporary political geography.
And the importance of the study lies in shedding light on the scientific works of this great world, as the fields of its scientific literature are numerous and varied, in an attempt to introduce future generations to the ideas and ideas that came in these books to benefit from them.
