تتناول هذه الدراسة الفراغ من جهة دوره في التشكيل المعماري، وكونه وحدة التشكيل الرئيسية التي ينطلق منها المصمم ليقدم رؤيته للحل المعماري. فعندما يكون التصميم منطلقاً من فراغ فإننا ندعو هذا الفراغ بالفراغ المولد للتصميم. وهو موضوع الدراسة. يتجلى دور هذا الفراغ في كونه المولد للتشكيل والناظم لعلاقات الربط الشكلية والفراغية بين العناصر، وهو موجه الحركة داخل المبنى، ومنظم علاقة العناصر مع المؤثرات الخارجية. وهو المسؤول عن ترتيب العناصر وفقاً لأهميتها وبالتالي رسم الهيئة الخارجية للعمل المعماري.
تُظهر الدراسة أهمية هذا الفراغ في عملية التصميم في كونه مبدأ ومنطلق العملية، ومولد العلاقات بين العناصر الأخرى.
تتناول الدراسة مفهوم الفراغ المولد للتصميم عبر العصور وكيف تعامل المعماري معه من خلال المدارس المعمارية المختلفة والعوامل المؤثرة في إحداث تطور في مفهوم الفراغ. وتبين ماهية الفراغ من خلال توضيح عناصره المشكلة وخصائصها والعلاقات المكانية الممكنة لفراغين، وصفات الفراغ والعوامل المؤثرة فيها وشرح بعض المفاهيم المتعلقة بلغة الفراغ وعلاقته مع الانسان من خلال كيفية ادراك الانسان للفراغ واحتياجاته التي يلبيها الفراغ، وتشرح أيضاً علاقة الفراغ بالزمن. وتقوم الدراسة بالتركيز على دور الفراغ في عملية التصميم المعماري من خلال توضيح كونه وحدة تشكيل معمارية وبيان كيفية توليده للتصميم في حالاته المختلفة سواء المفتوح أو المغلق، أو حالة ثنائية (فراغ-حجم). ثم تشرح تأثير الشكل الهندسي للفراغ على خصائص التشكيل. تتناول الدراسة أيضاً العملية التحليلية للفراغ في بعض النماذج المعمارية على ضوء الدراسة التحليلية المجردة ويخلص منها الى عدة استنتاجات. وتنقسم نتائج الدراسة بشكل عام في محورين الأول يتعلق بطبيعة الفراغ وخصائصه والآخر بعلاقته بالعمارة وعناصر التصميم. ويقدم مجموعة من التوصيات التي تؤدي للاستفادة العملية من الدراسة في تطوير العملية الأكاديمية والتصميمية ووضعها في سياق التطبيق العملي.

This study deals with space in terms of its role in architectural formation, and its being the main formation unit from which the designer starts to present his vision of the architectural solution. When the design starts from a vacuum, we call this vacuum the design-generating space. It is the subject of the study. The role of this space is evident in that it is the generator of formation and the regulator of the formal and spatial linking relationships between the elements. It directs movement within the building and regulates the relationship of the elements with external influences. He is responsible for arranging the elements according to their importance and thus drawing the external appearance of the architectural work.
The study shows the importance of this space in the design process in that it is the principle and starting point of the process, and the generator of relationships between other elements.
The study deals with the concept of space generating design throughout the ages, how the architect dealt with it through different architectural schools, and the factors influencing the development of the concept of space. It explains the nature of space by clarifying its formed elements, their characteristics, the possible spatial relationships of two spaces, the characteristics of space and the factors affecting it, and explaining some concepts related to the language of space and its relationship with man through how man perceives space and his needs that space meets. It also explains the relationship of space to time. The study focuses on the role of space in the architectural design process by clarifying that it is an architectural formation unit and explaining how it generates design in its various states, whether open or closed, or a dual state (space-volume). Then it explains the effect of the geometric shape of the space on the forming properties. The study also deals with the analytical process of space in some architectural models in the light of the abstract analytical study and draws several conclusions from it. The results of the study are generally divided into two axes: the first relates to the nature of space and its characteristics, and the other relates to its relationship to architecture and design elements. It presents a set of recommendations that lead to practical benefit from the study in developing the academic and design process and placing it in the context of practical application.
