لم يعد الفن التشكيلي لوحة ترسم، أو مجسماً يُنحت، إنما تعدى ذلك ليكون واحداً من الأساليب العلاجية المعترف بها على المستوى المحلي والعالمي,وقد وصفت الرابطة الأميركية للعلاج بالفن التشكيلي هذا النوع من العلاج بأنه الاستعمال والأستخدام العلاجي للإنتاج الفني من خلال ابتكار الفن والتمعن في إنتاجه وعملياته.
ويستطيع الأفراد أن يرفعوا من درجة إدراكهم لأنفسهم والآخرين، والتأقلم مع أعراضهم المرضية ، والضغوط النفسية والعصبية التي قد تنتابهم ، والصدمات التي يمرون بها في حياتهم ، مما يحقق لهم حياة متوازنة عقليا وجسديا، وقد حقق هذا النوع الجديد من العلاج نتائج فعالة مع العديد من الأمراض النفسية والعضوية ،ويعمل الفن على تحديد علاقة تواصلية بين الفرد والنشاط الفني الذي يهتم به الطفل وبالتالي يتنمى نطاق التواصل بالبيئة المحيطة سواء بالأشياء أو الأفراد في البيئة نفسها.
لذلك تعتبر الأنشطة الفنية من أهم الأنشطة التي تقدم لأطفال التوحد ذلك لأنها تساعدهم في تنمية إدراكهم الحسي ( اللمسي البصري) وذلك من خلال تنمية إدراكهم البصري عن طريق الإحساس باللون والخط والمسافة والبعد والحجم والإدراك باللمس عن طريق الرسم وملامسة السطوح.
لذلك يعتبر العلاج بالفنون من خلال الرسوم البيئية لانها من الوسائل الناجحة في علاج الاضطرابات المختلفة التي يعاني منها الكثير من الأفراد ذوي الاحتياجات الخاصة ومنهم الأطفال التوحديين حيث أنها جزء اساسى من برامج تنمية المهارات التواصلية والإجتماعية للأطفال ذوى الاحتياجات الخاصة .
ومن هنا يعتبر الفن الوسيط الناجح في علاج الاضطرابات المختلفة التي يعاني منها الكثير من الأفراد .كما أنها جزء اساسى من برامج تنمية المهارات للأطفال ذوى الاحتياجات الخاصة وبالطبع منهم الأطفال التوحديين.
والعلاج بالرسم له أهمية كبيرة لذوي اضطراب التوحد لانه يساعد على إطلاق الشعور التعبيري والانفعالي لدى الطفل من خلال تطور التفاعل الإنساني بينه وبين العمل الفني والمعالج، كما يعمل على تنمية وعي الطفل بنفسه ويجعله قادراً على إخراج عمل جميل ومميز، ويساعد على تنمية إحساس الطفل بنفسه حتى ينمو إحساسه بالبيئة من حوله، ويُثري الأسلوب النمطي الروتيني الذي يتبعه التوحديون في الرسم ويجعل أسلوبهم أكثر ليونة و هكذا يتضح لنا من خلال الرسم و اللعب بالألوان مدى توافق الطفل الإجتماعي و رغباته و مشكلاته الإنفعالية و الإسقاطات اللاشعورية التي تظهر في الرسم و الأنشطة التي تدفع الطفل الذي لديه توحد إلى أن يرسم ، ومن خلال ذلك يتعلم الطفل كثيراً من طرق التواصل مع البيئة المحيطة من خلال الرسم, وعلى هذا فالبحث هنا هو اضافة واثراء لهذا المنهج ,وليس المتبقى منه سوى اضافة نوعا من العلاج .
وعلى هذا فقد اصاغ الباحث المشكله فيما يلى :-
