يؤكد علماء التربية وجود مكتبة تعكس أهميتها الكبرى على تربية الفرد لأنها تساهم مساهمة فعالة في إثراء ثقافة الطالب بكل أنواع الأنشطة من خلال إطلاعهم على كتب المكتبة والتي بدورها تتيح الفرص الكافية لتعليمهم وفق أسس تربوية سليمة لتحقيق مختلف الأغراض مثل استكمال دراسة المواد الدراسية المقررة أو لزيادة الفهم أو الحصول على معلومات جديدة تعزز المناهج الدراسية أو حل مشكلة أو الإجابة على الأسئلة والاستفسارات الغامضة أو لغرض التسلية والترفيه.
كما يجب أن تتوفر بالمكتبة المدرسية مواد قرائية لمقابلة احتياجات القراءة المختلفة وتتفق مع استعدادات التلاميذ وميولهم وتشبع احتياجاتهم ورغباتهم واكتساب المهارات والقدرات اللازمة لعالم الغد وتحقيق ثقافة الإبداع مقابل ثقافة الإيداع.
ومما لا شك فيه أن المكتبة المدرسية الحديثة بما تحويه من أوعية معلومات فإنها تكمل وتثرى ثقافة الطالب.
