الالتزام في اللغة يفيد معنى المصاحبة التي من سماتها الثبات على الشيء واعتناقه وعدم التحول إلى ما سواه أو إلى ما دونه. و الالتزام شيء فطري في الإنسان وجزء من مكونات طبعه، ومن يخالف هذا الوضع الطبيعي يكون قد شذ عن طبعه وفطرته التي فُطر عليها .
وينقسم الالتزام إلى قسمين؛ التزام داخلي وهو عبارة عن ترجمة ما يدور بداخل النفس البشري أو الفكر وكذلك كل ما ينبثق عن الروح، وتتبلور هذه التجربة لتجعل الإبداع مميزًا شكلاً ومضمونا. و الالتزام الخارجي وهو عبارة عن الضوابط والنظم والقيود التي من شأنها ضبط حركة سير الحياة في أي مجتمع من المجتمعات؛ وهذه الضوابط قد تكون اجتماعية أو أخلاقية أو عقدية. وليس هذا من بدع الباحثة؛ ولكن ما يتضمنه البحث من رؤية جديدة لمفهوم الالتزام والإبداع ربما سيكون مما قد ينتظره القارئ من إبداع في هذا المجال.
البحث محاولة لتأصيل مفهوم الالتزام والإبداع في جذوره الأولى؛ بدءا بعصر ما قبل الإسلام متمثلاً بنموذجىّ: عنترة بن شداد في فروسيته، وعروة بن الورد في صعلكته التي كانت منهجًا اجتماعياً تفرد به عن مجموعة الصعاليك؛ مرورا بعصر صدر الإسلام الأول وكيف كانت بداية الالتزام متمثلة في قوله تعالى﴿ وَالشُّعَراءُ يَتَّبِعُهُمُ الْغاوُونَ * أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّهُمْ فِي كُلِّ وادٍ يَهِيمُونَ * وَأَنَّهُمْ يَقُولُونَ ما لا يَفْعَلُونَ * إِلاَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحاتِ وَذَكَرُوا اللَّهَ كَثِيرًا وَانْتَصَرُوا مِنْ بَعْدِ ما ظُلِمُوا ... ﴾ فلق الصبح الذي أضاء بصيرة شعراء الإسلام متمثلة في نموذجيّ حسان بن ثابت الذي كان لسانه سيف المقال ضد المشركين، وعبد الله بن رواحه الذي كان يمثل الجانب العقدي منطلق التزامه في هجاء الكفار، ومن سار على نهجهم ككعب بن مالك وغيره من الشعراء حتى أضحى " الالتزام " بمفهوم هؤلاء الشعراء مهادًا لشعراء العصور اللاحقة ؛ والبحث الذي سيتوزع في
