يتناول المقال آلية مهمة لحماية الأطفال فاقدي الرعاية والوالدية، والمحتاجين لرعاية وحماية ودعم بديل، ويتعلق الأمر بآلية الاحتضان التي تحظى بقبول وإجماع دولي بالنظر لنتائجها الإيجابية المحرزة في العديد من الدول من جهة، ولكونها الآلية الأهم في الترتيب بعد كل من الكفالة والتبني والرعاية المؤسسية بحيث تتخذها وتعمل وفقا لها العديد من الدول العربية والإسلامية من جهة أخرى.
كما يتناول أيضا أهم العمليات والإجراءات التي تقتضيها وتتطلبها هذه الآلية وتضمن نجاحها واستدامتها على المدى الطويل، ولأنها أيضا تسمح للشريحة المستهدفة من الأطفال بالعيش في وسط أسري والنهل من قيم وعادات محيطهم الثقافي والاجتماعي الذي يعزلون عنه متى تم إيداعهم بمؤسسات الرعاية.
كما يناقش هذا البحث الأسس القانونية الدولية التي استندت عليها وأسست بمقتضاها هذه الآلية، وبالخصوص إعلان المتعلق بالمبادئ الاجتماعية والقانونية المتصلة بحماية الأطفال ورعايتهم 1986، واتفاقية حقوق الطفل الدولية 1989، والمبادئ التوجيهية لرعاية الأطفال 2009، وغيرها من الوثائق الدولية المعتبرة أساسا حامية للأطفال وداعمة للعمل بنهج الرعاية الأسرية البديلة.

The article talks about Fostering as an important measure for protecting children who are out of their parental care and in need of alternative support and protection .This article has an international acceptance based on its positive outcomes recorded in many countries on the one hand and due to the fact that it is an important mechanism after Kafalah, Adoption and institutional Care that many Arab and Islamic countries approved and are working by on the other hand.
The article discusses the most important processes that Fostering include in order to guarantee its success and long term sustainability, and because it gives those children the chance to live in family environment and enables them to absorb the cultural and the traditional background from the society, they are deprived from, in case they are placed in care institutions.
Also, the article deals with the international legal bases of this mechanism: the Declaration on Social and Legal Principles related to the protection and welfare of children, with special Reference to Foster placement and adoption nationally and internationally 1986 in particular,the international convention of child’s wright 1989,and the Guidelines for the alternative care of children 2009.Besides,other international treaties are considered to be the protective basis for child’s protection approving alternative family care.
