This research illustrates the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) to increase the productivity rate of construction process. It concentrates on the measurable key performance indicator for productivity “Cost Estimating”, and illustrates the advantages of using such systems. It was found that a high rate of productivity is reached when BIM is used, and this is mainly because of the reduction in redesign and rework time.
The research included an assessment of the use of building information modeling in the design and construction stages by circulating a questionnaire aimed at construction companies inside and outside the Syrian Arab Public. The results of questionnaire showed that BIM system, despite of the fact that it is relatively new, it is appreciated by many users due to its importance in increasing the rate of productivity throughout a better communication between all project parties at the early stages of the project.
Despite the existence of barriers to the use of BIM systems which can be referred to various reasons, mainly the lack of qualified personnel, the wide use of BIM in the near future is expected to happen in the field of construction industry.
