إن الصراع بين المعلومات الورقية والمعلومات الالكترونية يذكرنا بالصراع الذي حدث في مرحلة الانتقال من المخطوط إلى المطبوع . ويؤكد لنا بأن العصر الأتى ليس هو عصر الكتاب التقليدي ولكنه أيضا عصر استخدامه الالكتروني سيكون تصويرا وقراءة ومراجعة وحفظا.
وان الكتاب الالكتروني بدأ يشق طريقه وينافس بقوة كوسيط لنقل المعارف البشرية.
ومع انتشار النشر الالكتروني ظهر ما يعرف بالكتاب الالكتروني والذي يمكن تعريفه بأنه مصطلح يستخدم لوصف نص مشابه للكتاب ولكن في شكل رقمي وذلك ليعرض على شاشة الحاسوب.
