Abstract
In this study, an experimental forced convection through three metallic foam samples embedded in a plate heat exchanger is presented. The metallic foam samples are made from Copper, NiFeAlCr and Inconel with different effective thermal conductivity and closed morphological parameters. The mass velocity ranging was from 38 to 77 kg m-2 s-1. The heat transfer is represented by the local and mean heat transfer and also in terms of the Nusselt number. A new correlation was developed as a function of Reynolds and Prandtl numbers and the effective thermal conductivity ratio, which was neglected by the authors in the previous studies. This one gives a good agreement compared to the experimental results in the cases of copper and Inconnel samples, but it overestimates a bit the Nusselt number in the case of the NiFeAlCr sample.
