الجغرافيا او الجغرافية ميدان معرفي يحتوي المكان بفلسفته العلمية الشمولية ويحللـهُ ويَصفه ويوَصِفَه، ويعبر عنه بدراسة أنظمته المختلفة، ويقـود إلى مخرجات علمية عـبر استخدام أحدث التقنيات والأدوات البحثية.
عبر السنوات الستين الماضية ظهر التوجه نحو استخدام الأساليب الكمية (الرياضيات والإحصاء) في البحث الجغرافي، إضافة لاعتماد الأسلوب (الوصفي)، وتعــد الأساليب الكمية من أساسيات القياس اللازمة لإنجاز البحوث الجغرافية.
تتطلب الأبحاث العلمية الجغرافية الاحدث وبكل مستوياتها وبياناتها وإنشاء خرائط نظم المعلومات الجغرافية .. أعتماد تطبيقات الذكاء الاصطناعي عن طريق تحديد المعلومات وتقديم الإجابات، مع إمكانية إتخاذ القرارات لإنجاز البحوث الجغرافية سواء في الجغرافيا البشرية أو الطبيعية.
