- Abstract
- This Paper aims to explore IT investment decisions evaluation practices in Egypt. IT evaluation literature was reviewed concerning IT investment evaluation models and methodologies. Traditional models include Economic Models (Productivity, and Profitability and financial analysis). Emerging trends in IT Evaluation include, but not limited to, Risk and Portfolio Management Approaches (Value-at-risk, Real Options), as well as Composite Balanced Scorecards (IT BSC). To recognize state of the art of IT investment decisions evaluation in Egypt, an exploratory study is conducted based on Questionnaires distributed into three categories of respondents (User of the system – Decision maker in investments in the system – Decision maker who has authority to use system) who worked in a number of listed companies operating in Egypt. The results of the exploratory study are in general so far consistent with findings of related literature. Results indicate that Net Present Value (NPV) and Return on Investment (ROI) are of great interest to decision makers in IT investment decision in Egypt. However, emerging IT evaluation trends (IT BSC and Value-at-risk) also gained their concern. One can interpret this as among financial measures, NPV and ROI are still widespread measures of IT value. Also, both Decision makers and Users are aware of recent trends of IT evaluation methodologies.
