Abstract
Innovation and massive development in Information Technology is driving nearly all aspects of our lives. Researchers have been utilizing from emerging technologies for decades. Consequently, scientific research becomes much easier in digital information era than ever. One of the most useful and helpful technologies for researchers is Scientific Social Networks (SSNs), which help researchers to be connected with each other, and enable scientific collaboration. The multidisciplinary nature of SSNs facilitates interaction among researchers from different disciplines, cultures and backgrounds, which results in interdisciplinary knowledge sharing and interdisciplinary collaborative researches. This paper aims to address the multidisciplinary nature of SSNs (Academia and ResearchGate), and discover their role in supporting interdisciplinary knowledge sharing and scientific collaboration across different academic disciplines.
