Abstract
Abstract— Aquilaria crassna has been traditionally used
in Asia for treatment of infectious diseases. The main
objectives of this study were to examine antibacterial
activity of the Aquilaria crassna heartwood extract against
six bacterial strain and four fungal strain. Phytochemical
screening and antioxidant activity were studied as well.
Antioxidant activities were examined by FRAP and DPPH
scavenging methods. Antibacterial activity was conducted
using disc diffusion assay and the minimum inhibitory
concentration (MIC) was determined by dilution method.
The extract exhibited considerable antioxidant activity
with presence of phenol and flavonoid. The minimum
inhibitory concentration for bacteria ranged from 64 to 8
μg/ml.
