Abstract
The effect of a magnetic field on the determination of the critical Rayleigh number, RaCr and on the natural convection flows stability in a cylindrical enclosure filled with a liquid metal, is carried out. In the limit of very low Prandtl numbers, Pr, the instability appears in the form of regular oscillations for sufficiently high values of the Rayleigh number. The stability diagrams shows the dependence of the critical Rayleigh number (corresponding to the regular oscillations ) via the Hartmann number, Ha. A strong dependence of the critical Rayleigh number, RaCr with the increase of the magnetic field from Ha = 5 to 25 for three Prandtl numbers, Pr = 0.015, 0.019, 0.026, is obtained.
