لاشك أن مهنة التعليم بشكل عام ودور المعلم بشكل خاص يمتاز بالتعقيد والتشعب بشكل لا يمكن أن ترقى إليه المهن الأخرى مهما كانت معقدة، وذلك يعود لأسباب عدة منها أن المعلم لا يتعامل مع طرف يغلب على واقعه الثبات وإنما طرف متغير هو ( المتعلمين ) وهذا التغير يحدث بشكل دائم ومستمر يحتم على المعلم أن يتماشى معه بشكل طردي كونه تغير حتمي له أسبابه المنطقية والتي تتمثل بظروف داخلية تتعلق بالمتعلمين ومنها (النمو والنضج والقدرات العقلية وما يتبعها من فروق فردية بين المتعلمين) وأخرى خارجية عامة مثل ظروف البيئة الاجتماعية خارج المدرسة، أو ظروف البيئة المدرسية الناتجة عن دور الإدارة وأسلوبها في إدارة المدرسة، أو ظروف البيئة الصفية الناتجة عن قيادة المعلم للصف، وانعكاسها على نفوس المتعلمين وسلوكياتهم.
