دأب العراقيون خلال العهد الاسلامي على زيارة الاماكن المقدسة في الحجاز سنوياً لاداء فريضة الحج، واهتم بعض الخلفاء العباسيين بتسيير قوافل الحج، ففي سنة 160هـ /776م صرف الخليفة المهدي في حجته ثلاثين مليون درهم، وحمل معه عدداً هائلاً من العباءات لتوزيعها كهدايا، وبنى بيوتاً جميلة في كل محطة من بغداد الى مكة وشيد معالم عديدة على طول الطريق، وكان الخليفة الاول الذي حمل معه الثلج ليبرد عصير الفاكهة على الطريق.
Abstract
Consistently Iraqis during the Islamic era to visit the holy places in the Hijaz year to perform the Hajj and is interested in some of the Abbasid caliphs convoys pilgrimage, in the year 160 AH / 776 AD exchange Caliph al-Mahdi in his argument thirty million dirhams, and carried with him a huge number of gowns to be distributed as gifts, and built houses beautiful at each station from Baghdad to Mecca and built many milestones along the way, and it was the first caliph, who carried the ice to cool fruit juice on the road
