Abstract
Back ground: Aloe vera is one of an herbaceous and perennial plant, its leaves gel can further wound healing without any observable side effects. The present study aims to assignment the periodontium injury healing regarding the biological effects of using Aloe vera as topical treatment, by histological examination, and immunohistochemical evaluation of syndecan -4 . Materials and methods: An electrical periodontium injury induced by scaler was presented to a 36 male Albino rats, on the distal sides of both lower anterior teeth. The animals were divided into control group (left without any treatment), and experimental group the defect treated with 1µl Aloe vera gel/normal saline. The rats were sacrificed at 3,7,14 days. Periodontal healing was histologically examined with immunohistochemical localization of syndecan 4. Results: The histological assignment showed that the Aloe vera gel enhanced the periodontium healing by promote the apposition of cellular cementum, new periodontal ligament, and formation of new mature bone in a faster manner. The immunohistochemical examination revealed that the aloe vera treatment boost the expression of syndecan - 4 by epithelial cell, osteoblasts, fibroblast, stromal cells, with highly significant differences in comparison with control and saline groups. Conclusion of Present study: Aloe vera gel accelerated the healing process in periodontal defect in comparison to the normal physiological healing process.
