مقدمة الكتاب:
ان اهمية استمرار دراسة علم المكان لا يعني مطلقا عدم اكتراث المناهج الاكاديمية والدراسات السابقة والاعتقاد بانها قد أهملته, بل على العكس فان وجود الاسس النظرية و المفاهيمية الجادة لهذا العلم بدءا من تحليلات نظريات الموقع ل V.Thunen في القرن التاسع عشر ومرورا بافكار Laundhart والفريد فيبر وتحليلات لوش وادجار هوفر وفريدمان وايزرد قد زاد من درجة الاهتمام تلك, على الرغم من بروز نظريات واسس مفاهيمية ربما كانت تركز على الجانب الاقتصادي البحت سواء اكان بحثا في الاقتصادات الكلية او الجزئية , الا ان تنوع وتزايد تشابكات الانظمة الاقتصادية وقدرتها التفسيرية المحدودة جعل من الخوض في الحيز المكاني للنشاط الاقتصادي وتاثيراته اكثر تفسيرا وفهما للحل فالمشاكل الاقتصادية والاجتماعية لم تعد تلك المشاكل المتعلقة بفهم التحليلات الضمنية للابعاد التي تكون او تؤلف البعد العام لنظرية التوازن بين العرض والطلب او بين مفاهيم تقع تحت طائلة الفهم بنظريات التنمية الاقتصادية والتخلف والنمو بل اصبح فهم المكان بتجلياته العلمية والعملية له ابعاد هامة في التفكير, فأي حيز اقتصادي لا يمكن له ان يستجيب للمتغيرات مالم يكن هناك فهم للمكان الذي يحتويه وكيف تحدث تلك الانتقالة بين صيرورة النشاط والتكيف الذي يحدث فيه.
