Abstract
The work described in the thesis entitled "Kinetic Studies in Micellar Systems" deals with systematic kinetic studies of dipeptide–ninhydrin and metal ion-coordinated dipeptide–ninhydrin reactions. The dipeptide used were glycyl-L-alanine (Gly-L-Ala) and glycyl-DL-aspartic acid (Gly-DL-Asp), while the metal ion-coordinated dipeptides complexes used were [Hg(II)-Gly-L-Ala]+ , [Hg(II)-Gly-DL-Asp]+ , [Cu(II)-Gly-L-Ala]+ , [Cu(II)-Gly-DL-Asp]+ . The reactions held in micelle mediated aqueous system under different experimental conditions. We have used three dicationic gemini surfactants (14-s-14, s = 4, 5, 6). For comparison, effect of conventional cationic surfactant TTABr, which can be considered as "monomeric" counterpart of the above geminis, has also been examined under similar kinetic conditions. Effect of organic solvents (i.e., dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), 1,4-dioxane (DO), and acetonitrile (AN)) on reaction rate was also studied
