يُقال إنّ نيتشه، وقد دخل في حالة من الوحدة النهائيّة إثر القطيعة مع "لو"، كان يتنزّه ليلاً في الجبال المطلّة على خليج جنوى، فيشعل نيرانًا هائلة ويروح يتأمّل احتراقها. غالبًا ما فكّرت في تلك النيران وغالبًا ما تراقص وميضُها في خلفيّة حياتي الفكريّة كلّها. فإن حدث ولم أكن منصفًا بحقّ بعض الأفكار وبعض الأشخاص الذين صادفتهم خلال القرن، فلأنّني وضعتها ووضعتهم عن غير قصدٍ في مواجهة تلك الحرائق, فكان أن تحوّلوا سريعًا إلى رماد.
Abstract
It is said that Nietzsche, having entered into a state of final loneliness following the break with "Lou", was strolling at night in the mountains overlooking the Gulf of Genoa, lighting huge fires and contemplating their burning. I often thought of those flames and their flickering often danced in the background of my entire intellectual life. If I have been unfair to some of the ideas and some of the people I have encountered in the course of the century, it is because I have inadvertently set them and set them against those fires, so that they were quickly reduced to ashes.
