نتيجة للأنفاق التي تحدتْها اليرقات في عمق الخشب لساق الشجرة أو فروعها يحدث ضعف في صلابتها ويجعلها سهلة الكسر بفعل الرياح، أو بفعل العمليات الزراعية من حرث أو جني الثمار، وخاصة عند وجود أكثر من نفق في ساق الشجرة أو فروعها، الأمر الذي يعرقل نمو الأشجار وازدهارها وعند الإصابة الشديدة تؤدي إلى موت الشجرة بالكامل، وهذا ما ينعكس سلباً على كمية ونوعية الإنتاج الزراعي لهذه الأشجار المصابة.
ويواجه المزارع في منطقة الدراسة بعض الصعوبات لمكافحة هذه الآفة ومنها توفر الظروف البيئية المناسبة للحشرة طوال العام، وقلة تأثير الرش بالمبيدات على الطور اليرقي الضار . وعدم الاكتشاف المبكر للإصابة في الشجرة يزيد من صعوبة علاجها، وفي كثير من الأحيان يضطر المزارع إلى اقتلاعها من جذورها للتخلص من الحشرة، ولضعف الشجرة وعدم قدرتها على النمو والإنتاج، ومما يزيد الأمر تفاقماً هو ارتفاع أسعار المبيدات الحشرية بشكل كبير هذا مع ضعف إمكانيات قسم الإرشاد الزراعي بالمنطقة.

Summary:
As a result of the tunnels made by the larvae deep into the wood of the tree’s stem or branches, its solidity weakens and makes it easily broken by the wind, or by agricultural operations such as plowing or harvesting fruits, especially when there is more than one tunnel in the tree’s stem or branches, which hinders the growth and prosperity of trees. In case of severe infection, it leads to the death of the entire tree, which negatively affects the quantity and quality of agricultural production of these infected trees.
Farmers in the study area face some difficulties to combat this pest, including the availability of suitable environmental conditions for the insect throughout the year, and the lack of effect of pesticide spraying on the harmful larval stage. Failure to detect early infestation in the tree increases the difficulty of treating it, and in many cases the farmer is forced to uproot it from its roots to get rid of the insect, due to the weakness of the tree and its inability to grow and produce. What exacerbates the matter is the significant increase in the prices of pesticides, in addition to the weak capabilities of the Extension Department. agriculture in the region.
