يتباين تكرار مواسم الشتاء الدافئ في العراق، فلكل موسم خصائصه الحرارية المميزة، إذ إنّ طبيعة تكرار الأنظمة الضغطية المؤثرة في مناخ العراق لا تمتاز بثباتها، إذ أنّ نسب تكرارها وعدد أيام بقاءها يتباين بين موسم وآخر، ممّا يساهم في ظهور تغيرات في المعدلات الحرارية اليومية، وبذلك تصاغ صفة مناخية مختلفة بين موسم وآخر، وبذلك فإن قيمة مؤشر شدة الشتاء القياسي (WSI) في العراق تتباين من موسم لأخر ومن محطة لأخرى؛ إذ أنّ قيمة مؤشر الشتاء القياسي تتوقف على المعدلات الحرارية المسجلة في محطات الرصد.
