تُعد الدراسات العليا في الجامعة الواجهة الأساسية التي تعبر عن قدرة الجامعة على العطاء والإبداع ، لما لها من دور في رفد الكليات بالكوادر التدريسية المتمكنة علمياً من قيادة الدفة العلمية لأي كلية ، ولهذا السبب كان لابد من إجراء مراجعة دورية على أعمال تلك المؤسسة العلمية وتقييم دورها وتشجيع إيجابياتها ، وفي نفس الوقت أيجاد السلبيات وتقويمها .
وعلى هذا الأساس تولدت فكرة لدى أستاذنا الفاضل الأستاذ الدكتور هاشم يحيى الملاح تنص على دراسة خاصة بالدراسات العليا في قسم التاريخ في كليتنا الآداب ، فقد بدء العمل بدراسة المناهج الدراسية للقسم في مرحلة الماجستير والدكتوراه في سنتها التحضيرية وتقييم تلك المقررات الدراسية ومقارنتها مع أقسام التاريخ في كليات وجامعات أخرى داخل وخارج القطر .
كما عملت الدراسة على تناول الرسائل والاطاريح الجامعية لقسم التاريخ، وإجراء مسح على ما تناولته تلك الرسائل والاطاريح من مواضيع ، وإيجاد اختصاص كل منها والبحث في أي عصر من عصور التاريخ كان التركيز، وفي أي منها كان التقصير والافتقار، وهل كان المشرف على أي منها ضمن اختصاص مادة البحث، وبعد ذلك مقارنة تلك النتائج مع أقسام تاريخ في جامعات أخرى .
أن طريقة الفُرق البحثية هي التي تم اتباعها في هذه الدراسة ، إذ تم تقسيم العمل بين أكثر من شخص عمل كل منهم على تقييم باب من أبواب الدراسات العليا في القسم ، وقد تم تقسيم محاور البحث من خلال نتائج جمع المادة إلى أربع محاور رئيسية تناول الأول أهداف الدراسات العليا في الكلية بشكل عام ومقارنتها مع الجامعات الأخرى .
ثم تناول المحور الثاني شروط القبول في الدراسات العليا ومقارنتها أيضاً مع الجامعات الأخرى ، فيما تناول الثالث المقررات الدراسية في السنة التحضيرية وعدد الوحدات الدراسية ، ونوعية المواد من حيث كونها إجبارية واختيارية ، والبحث عن أوجه التشابه والاختلاف بينها وبين مقررات أقسام تاريخ في جامعات أخرى .
كما تناول محور رابع الرسالة أو الأطروحة بحد ذاتها وعدد وحداتها والموضوعات التي تطرقت لها وهل أن تلك الموضوعات حيوية أم لا ، وهل فيها تكرار ممل بين أكثر من طالب أم تحوي التجدد ، وهل أن الأشراف على تلك الرسائل كان مشتتاً وفي غير اختصاص المشرفين أم كان ناجحاً ومنهجياً .

The postgraduate studies at the university are the basic facets that express the university's ability to give and creativity, because of its role in providing faculties with teaching staff capable of scientifically leading the scientific rudder of any college, and for this reason it was necessary to periodically review the work of this scientific institution and evaluate its role and encourage Positive, and at the same time find negative and evaluate.
On this basis, an idea was created by our distinguished Professor Dr. Hashim Yahya El-Mallah, which provides for a special study of postgraduate studies in the Department of History at the Faculty of Arts. The study of the department's curricula in the master's and doctorate stages in its preparatory year was started and evaluated, And other universities inside and outside the country.
The study also dealt with the handling of letters and university papers for the Department of History, conducting a survey on the subjects covered by these letters and theses, finding their respective competence and researching any era of history. The focus was, and in any of them was negligence and lack thereof. The competence of the research material, and then compare those results with the history departments of other universities.
That the method of the research teams are followed in this study, as the work was divided between more than one person work each of them to evaluate the door of graduate studies in the section, has been divided research axes through the results of the collection of the article into four main axes addressed the first goals Postgraduate studies in the college in general and compare them with other universities.
The second topic dealt with the conditions of acceptance in postgraduate studies and compared them with other universities. The third dealt with the courses in the preparatory year, the number of study units, the quality of materials in terms of compulsory and optional, and the search for similarities and differences between them and the courses of history departments in other universities.
The fourth axis dealt with the thesis or the thesis itself, the number of its units and the topics addressed to them.
