Awareness of human rights and relationship to the needs theory (Maslow) in Oman

The study aimed at revealing the level of awareness of students about human rights in basic education schools from the viewpoint of teachers in the Sultanate of Oman. Differences in the level of students' awareness of human rights (knowledge, values, skills) are also defined according to the gender variable and years of experience In light of Maslow's theory of needs. The study sample consisted of (62) teachers. A questionnaire was prepared and applied to measure the views of teachers on the level of students' awareness of human rights to benefit from the study (Omar, 2008). The questionnaire consisted of (54) paragraphs, divided into three dimensions: the knowledge dimension and the teaching of the concepts of human rights, including (12) paragraph, the dimension of value and relates to the teaching of human rights values and contains (18) paragraph. The skill dimension is related to actual human rights practices and includes (24) paragraphs. The researcher used the analysis of arithmetical averages, standard deviations, and t-test. The results of the study indicate that there is a high level of awareness among students of basic education in human rights from the point of view of workers and teachers. The levels of awareness of the dimensions came in the order (the first is the skill dimension, the second is the value dimension, the third is the cognitive dimension). The results showed statistically significant differences in the gender variable for females. While there were no statistically significant differences due to the variable of experience. The study recommended the preparation of programs and activities in support of human rights concepts in the Sultanate And link it to the needs that support the building of the human personality, and the need for continuity of plans aimed at promoting human rights concepts in the school environment According to the needs of the theory of needs. .
